An earthquake of 6.8 magnitude shakes fled Burma

An earthquake of 6.8 degrees magnitude on the Richter scale took place today in Burma (now Myanmar) and felt even in Bangkok, where skyscrapers have been moved for several seconds.

The U.S. Geological Survey, in its final bulletin, the epicenter 10 km deep, at first placed him at 229.4 kilometers and 82 kilometers north of Chiang Mai, the main town the northern region of Thailand and one of the major tourist destinations.

The quake occurred at 13.55 GMT, at 589 kilometers northeast of Yangon, the former Burmese capital, and 772 kilometers north of Bangkok.

The earthquake has taken place in a remote, mountainous, sparsely inhabited and is part of the "Golden Triangle" drug, where the borders of Burma, Laos and Thailand.

Burmese authorities, the country where the media are all controlled by the Ministry of Information, have not reported so far of casualties or damage.

On day 10, 25 people died and 250 were injured in another quake of 5.8 magnitude on the Richter scale that shook the border region of China with Burma.
